Not only is the b&w version better by a mile, it's also one of the best diner shots I've seen in a while... so many things going on in the scene, could make up dozens of different storylines from it.

I agree with others - the reflection of waitress ads additional bonus-points to this great picture.
Inframan - it's interesting point about B&W for candid photos. I like to work with color but I think I should try B&W as well. I'm reading now "Professional Photoshop: The Classic Guide to Color Correction (5th Edition)" by Dan Margulis. This book fully changed my view on subject. It also has couple of topics related to B&W conversion.

Yet another great catch, jp! Your are really leading this series IMHO. Love the b/w and also the reflection on the left for me is the ice on the cake.

Thanks Dale. I thought of that & tried it, but found that removing the reflection of the waitress in the mirror diminished the tension dynamics of the scene. Sometimes more *information* in a shot adds to it. ;)

A true to life candid of the "lunch Break" that occurs everywhere over and over. A fine rendition of the classic American diner and the black and white fits it to a T. That said, a little prudent cropping on the left would help focus the image. Well done. Dale

Not trying for technical perfection, K. Out here in the west we tend to get rid of rules when we find them intrusive. ;)

Why did I choose to process in B&W? Please see my comment on Frank's fine B&W image in the last challenge:http://www.pbase.com/stfchallenge/image/95924822.

I firmly believe that B&W communicates the human condition far better than color. B&W gets right to intuition, by passing (hopefully) analysis. Can't imagine HCB, Brassai or Dorothea Lange in color.

Great scene! Is it my monitor calibration wrong or the photo is a bit noisy, specially in bottom third ? Or is it result of B&W processing. Why basically have you decided to do B&W ?
