I knew this was yours before even looking at the artist's name, Jim. I'm not normally drawn to black and white, but I do like this image, especially the sharpness surrounding the blurred figure. Great lighting, also. Helen

Wow - what a story here! Love the pic and after reading your comments, I would have titled it "Didn't Even Notice". -faye

Hmmm.... now this is interesting.... after I renamed it I looked at it again. And although I like the rename, after reading Eric's comment it made me think.... Isn't it all too often that we consider the lonely to be in dreary, hazy lives - so then think of their image representation as dark, soft, and mysterious? It's all too often the those suffering loneliness or depression live sharp, confident facades but are lonely at the end of the day?

I've been working at a social service agency too long.... ;-)

Wow, talk about overwhelmingly similar feedback. I posted this on another site and received very similar comments. So, a retitle it shall be... for those that didn't see the original title, it was "Lonely Christmas". I think I tried forcing the title on the image and became very close-minded. Thanks.

Fromheretoforthwithtobecalled "Unphased by the Hype". Other considerations were:

- A Determined Christmas
- One Gift Left
- I Hate this Season
- Damn Photographer (this guy asked me what I was taking pictures of, and I told him "The lights". He paused, turned around, and said, "huh, nice". Hadn't even noticed.

Thanks for your feedback!

Jim

I agree there's a mismatch between the title and the photo. The walker seems just a notch too purposeful and the lights a shade too sharply defined to characterize loneliness. Of course it's a fine photo, wonderfully composed -- but needs a retitle. Erichocinc

This is beautiful just the way it is. I really love it. Ann C

Jim: This is very very appealing and very crisp. Good BW choice. I might have softened it a tad. Lonely Christmases are sad, and for me, sad is softer. The subject is nicely blurred which helps. Of course, one could effectively argue that the crispness contrasted with the blur and anonymity heightens the heartache. I like this a lot. John
