Ice lantern 1

Having unhuman conditions (way below freezing point) gives the opportunity to freeze some water into "home made" ice lantern. Mother nature gave me also the perfect bed for the setup with some new snow.

Picture is as taken, no editing done. The only light source is from the candle (well, it is never really dark within the city but still...) Place is actually my balcony so I could stay pretty much inside while taking the picture. This way I could take about 5 shots with different exposure times before freezing ;-)

I also had another lantern coming up using black currant juice (home made of course) instead of water to get different color but didn't get it ready in time. First version was outside too long so it was deep frozen and then I just missed the deadline...

Wow! It's hard to imagine having it so cold you could create an ice lantern... great and clever idea well done. Ann C

miika, I really like your home-made lantern...and the candle light effects on it and on the snow. Nice idea/image. MFC

Very nice effect! I like the reflections the light throws. Helen

Neat idea! I love how feathery the snow looks. A question about the color cast: did you sepia-tone the picture?
