Bird Watching, a Passionate Hobby
by Arctic Fox

North Central Texas, USA

Bird watching is one of mine and my husband's favorite hobbies. This great blue heron was taken with my husband pausing on the bridge and watching out for traffic as I shot the photo from the passenger seat through the open window, taking pains not to include him (i.e. the driver) in the shot. Lucky for us, traffic is few and far between on this rarely traveled country lane. Ducks, geese, hawks, egrets and many other fowl frequent this area and it has become one of our favorite bird watching spots. We hope to take our canoe to this spot soon and perhaps venture closer to the big birds.

I'm not much of a birdwatcher, but this is an oustanding image. Very nicely done! Helen

Beautiful, serene setting, perfectly captured! I'm at odds with any idea of rotating this image -- it contains no "horizon", as such, and I'll happily back the heron to know what's actually vertical, which is just how its legs are as it waits patiently :-) - Mike

Justin, Troy & Alopa - thanks so much for your generous comments.

Justin - I was dead tired when I posted this entry, so I did a basic pp (ie leveling) the morning after I posted. However, there appears to be a few glitches in the gallery. I've tried so many times to update this photo to no avail - before there were comments. So I'll just have to stick with this version of the entry. Again, thanks for your comments.

I'm with you on that one. I love bird-watching and photographing. This is beautiful light and a very peaceful scene. For pure perfection, I'd agree with Dale that leveling the horizon would make it even better - but it's still a lovely photo!

Fox, I like this a lot. Beautiful lighting on the heron and its reflection. All seems calm and well.

Fantastic capture and nice composition. The comp is even better when flipped horizontally so he is on the right and leveled. Dale
