This image is entirely staged. No eyes were REALLY blackened, no sweats worked up. I just had the idea in bed 24 hours ago. My sons - 19 and 20 agreed to take an hour out of their schedule to go the the Black Box theater of my school (www.newschoolva.com) and pose for a noble (?) sport shot. Tristan, the one you see, borrowed a pair of boxing gloves from a friend, we already had a mouth guard from our Tae Kwon Do classes so off we went. We gave Tris (amid much hilarity) a light coating of olive oil and followed with generous splatterings of water. I had the composition and execution pretty clear in my mind. Actually doing it was another story because each of us was doubled up lauging more than we were executing. In any event, after several takes we had a couple which seemed to work so back home we came. (others not pp'd in Demo Gallery)
I did (for me) a relatively small amount of pp. The eye, the crowd (from last year's graduation ceremony - it was all I could get) and the spotlights. The boys were pretty pleased with the results, so was I. Sacha's skinny arm is a bit of a giveaway, especially when you know what's going on. If it's any comfort Denise, Joan, my wife, wouldn't/couldn't look at them even though she was aware of the staging. Most important, it was fun to do (maybe too much fun!)
