B&W film taken years ago. Could I do this today with an R1? I dunno...
I think I may have to invest in a Leica M camera & a Nikon scanner. Got that hankering. ;)

Inframan, thanks for your answer. I feel the same way about the digital vs. film. Digital looks almost too flawless. Having never shot film, I'm no authority on the subject, but I see this difference all the time. The benefits of digital are too many, I think, for film to come back to the mainstream. Digital is young, and I think in the future we will start seeing more widespread tools that can emulate a film like feel from digital files.

Found this on Open Talk. Talk about on-topic.

I can't give you a simple answer, Tyler. I've been looking lately at images on the leica forum taken (currently) with M3s & M6s & there's just a quality of the tonal range & light present I rarely see in digital work. Plus I've been going back to some of my own older b&w negs & discovering the same thing. I've posted some of these on my flickr site. The more I see & use digital equipment, the more I see a move in the direction of a technical kind of *perfection* at the expense of what. _ dare I say _ *ambiance*? ;)

An analogy I've come to like is the difference between *artificia* & *natural* flavors. I bet a lot of people these days prefer the taste of Mentos candies to real fruit.

Maybe we should start a discussion on Open Forum. If they haven't already been beaten to death there.

This is great. I love the depth. What do you think couldn't be done with digital for this picture?
