Willem. I really like the composition and the photo. The plate on the left is balanced nicely by the plate and cup on the right. The rose softens the mode and helps complete the tone, and its diagonal placement adds energy to this "still life.
Very nice!

SB's comments are interesting, I hadn't though it from his/her perspective, I just thought the comment "Breakfast, my dear ?" was made from the side of the table closest to the viewer, so I didn't find the title discordant.

Isn't the change of viewpoint or angle not one of the methods a photographer has to make his image more interesting or make a better composition ? Look around and see which ones appeal most ? A standard view might match the title better but is just boring IMHO (I have tried that viewpoint).

Willem, I feel as if I'm sitting on the wrong side of the breakfast setup. The title says you're presenting this to someone (ie: the viewer - who'd be positioned 'in front' of the photo (bottom)). The positioning of the plate, cup, and orientation of the rose indicate that the recipient is on the other side (top). Small detail maybe - but it's the small details that make up the larger picture. Just a friendly observation. - SB.

Yup! I like it much better without the knife. Very nice!

Mark, unfortunately this image is from last Sunday and the rose is no longer available for the picture ...... Could of course buy a new one but am going to try something completely different this weekend.

I like this one much more than the other version Willem. A rose is a much softer touch than a knife that looked just a little lonely on it's own. Now if you want to get REALLY picky with your image, take the rose, trim (with a scissor) the right side greenery so it's not sticking out so much... place it back in the same spot and you have an image with perfectly clean "lines". One has to really care to go to such great lengths :-) Mark J
