1st Place Winner
Atrium

by Helen Betts

Istanbul, Turkey

From the first floor of my office. Since I spend at least 12 hours a day here, I seem to be unable to take pictures of much more than my immediate surroundings :-).

Wow, what a pretty shot, Helen! Your composition is superb ...and is making the building look more impressive than it really would be!

Brilliant shot Helen... Seems nice to work in such a building...

Great shot - I love the curves and lines, the clouds, and the very cool perspective! It's surprising you didn't have to do much to correct for distortion.

Thanks, Tyler. Amazing enough, I did very little correction for distortion (the second time around), just had to pull the right-hand corner up a smidge after I straightened the image. I like to photograph architecture, and distortion is the bane of my photograpic existence, so this was a relief :-). Helen

Very captivating shot, you did an excellent job. May I ask if you had to correct for distortion? I see that it was shot at a wide angle. Thanks.

Thank you for the comments! My newspaper's building is truly stunning, and I've taken to bringing my camera every day to work with me, mainly to get a shot outside that I'm waiting for the right moment to take. But I figure I may as well try to capture some of the building as well, and people are getting used to seeing me shooting some unusual things around there. I sometimes do feel a bit silly doing it, but I've learned to just ignore everybody around me to a certain extent :-) Helen

With this sourrounding you won't need to go outside. It is an amazing image and for sure I love the perspective. Wow!

Wonderful shot. The clouds give a nice backdrop to the beautiful architecture. I'm always afraid of looking goofy when I try to take shots like these :-)

Wow, that's amazing.
Well, done, Helen. I probably would have fallen over backward taking this shot. ;-)
