Plane Pointillism*

by

Melbourne, Australia

The soft pastel colours of this plane tree bark and the fine grain reminds me of pointillist paintings.

no, it's not a eucalyptus, we call them plane trees. this is not a indigineous tree to australia but an import from the northern hemisphere. the scientific name is planatus. i've checked wiki and evidently americans call them sycamores. this bark is from a young tree in the process of completely shedding its bark. according to wikipedia, the young trees tend to do this from time to time.

this is intended to be viewed at different sizes and distances. at smaller sizes and greater distances, the grain will merge and the image will soften.

Beautiful! Thought it was ceramics at first. What kind of tree is it, Eucalyptus?

Neat shot - I love the abstract composition, the textures, and the subtle colors!
