I looked at your other bottle picture and really like them, especially the blue, the orange and the notmilk picture with 4 bottles. I find them much more attractive and cleaver than the one here.

Thanks for the tips. I'll try them tonight.

Here's something else I tried.

I covered a shoebox with black fabric and cut a hole in the top and then placed a bottle of liquid over the hole. I also cut a small hole in the front of the box and manually fired a flash into the hole while the shutter was open. The result is athttp://www.pbase.com/pfc2001/milk_bottles.

Would it be possible to lower the light so you have large colorfull "shadows" on the vertical wall ? Willem

Perhaps backlighting would have allowed the colored water to glow and really show off the bottles. - Shay

YOu could try changing the position of the light source.. it's very bright and causing some glare on the bottles. I LOVE the colored shadows the bottles are creating by virtue of the light shining through them. Look at the colors on the background / tablecover created by the bottles, then look at the color of your bottles? So the trick might be to simply change the angle and direction from which the light is coming. Since I'm not there and do not know what light source you are using... it's in your hands :-)

I have had my camera for 2 days now. I have been looking forward to trying it out and making digital photography a "serious" hobby. I do not yet have a quality image editing program and did nothing more than add a border to the picture in Microsoft Image Composer 1.5.

I found the milk bottles about 25 years ago. They were under some loose floorboards in the attic of the house where I grew up. The people that owned the house prior to my grandparents operated a still during prohibition in the 1920's. I found 18, 1 quart milk bottles - not two alike.

The bottles are filled with colored water and the light is provided by an off-camera flash which I triggered manualy while in near total darkness.

Any suggestions on how this picture might have been improved (without expensive accessories) is appreciated.
