Good point Martin. I spent a bit of time trying to get the colours and mood to be reflective of what I saw when I took the photo. Now that you point out the crop, you are absolutely right. The focus of the picture really should be their expressions and so the background is a little irrelevant - I probably either need more or less of it. Thanks for your comments.

Beautiful image, Mark! Hope you don't mind the suggestion, I'd try a really tight crop, to the point where each side would begin near the eyes. The image already zeroes in on the wonderful expressions, maybe cropping out the sides and filling the frame would punctuate that? Then again it's also good to see the environment they're in... well, it's a great photo either way! :)
