Yes Michael it does look to be very old indeed! I'm trying to figure out what it is :-) Maybe part of an old clock mechanism? Whatever it is, I find the configuration of gears and other parts very interesting. The dust and cobwebs indicate that, as your title suggest, this device has long been forgotten; it seems to convey a certain feeling of sadness or dejection. Nice find, nicely captured, and very nice entry for this challenge!
