1906 by Awais Yaqub

Pakistan / Faisalabad

The foundation of Lyallpur was laid in 1896. Its famous clock tower was built on a well. It was completed in 1906. The construction of this clock tower was completed under the supervision of Ghulab Khan who belonged to the family who built Taj Mahal in Agra. The clock was brought from Bombay. It is believed that the clock tower was built in the memory of Queen Victoria after her death. By the time this tower was built the eight bazaars were already operational. design of bazaars is like union jack of Britan's flag and tower in center of it

Very nice composition...even though the tower is your main subject, the foreground helps to convey the location and the atmosphere in that spot. And this was a very nice subject for B&W. And thank you for the story about it as well...I've got several CDs of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan - beautiful and powerful voice...it's nice to see where he comes from!

Great composition - I love the black/white conversion, and the beautiful clock tower!

Awais, your 100 year old clock tower looks so beautiful and majestic, as it towers above the city. You did a good job with your post processing too, I like it. Nice shot and great entry for this challenge.
