Nice shot Adam. I love that beautiful color in the sky! Trying to figure out where you did the cloning is really hard because you did a excellent job of it. My guess would be the lower right corner. Do I get any biscuits?

Looks much better, Adam, without the dust bunnies! And thanks for the explanation of the color gradation -- I'll have to work on it. And not a word to anyone ;-). Helen

Cheers Helen - you're right, some dust specs slipped through - I've submitted a second attempt on the sony forum and hopefully an admin can replace this shot with the new attempt. Can't do it myself again!

Not sure I want to tell you how to get the colour gradutions, kind of an 'in the know' thing. I suppose I can, as long as you promise not to tell anyone. Ok?

I used a polariser at wide angle and a lot of messing about with the exposure. A polariser produces maximum polarisation (deepest blue colour) at 90 degrees to the light source (the sun). With this wide angle lens (28mm) we're picking up a large range of angles from the sun hence the colour change. The exposure is important - overexpose and you lose that colour. I waited for the sun to drop behind the clouds then just played with it. The yellow colour? Heavy industrial air pollution! China is one big toilet, but sometimes you can use that to your advantage.

Very dramatic capture, Adam. I particularly like the silhouettes and the gradations of color in the sky, something that I always seem to have a problem with in this type of image. * It looks like you have a fair amount of dust on your sensor that is showing up in zoomed images. I go thru this a lot with my D200 and find that it's very easy to just clone out the dust bunnies from the sky. Helen
