The alternate title of this image is "Killing Time at the Hotel." We were on an extended drive around western Turkey with my visiting mother-in-law. Our car broke down right as we were in line for a ferry to Gallipoli (Gelibolu), on a Sunday when nothing was open. We had to rent a very expensive hotel room and cool our heels waiting for the car repair shops to open the next day. The hotel was beautifully situated, right on the Dardanelles, but way out of town with nowhere close by to go. In the end we had to leave our car at a garage, rent another one, drive two hours to catch the fast ferry to Istanbul, get the car repaired long distance (a water pump that despite three attempts they couldn't seem to find for four days), then do the whole thing in reverse to retrieve our car on Friday ($1,500 later for everything) and drive back to Ankara (a 14-hour day).
