Tempe's Creepy Rabbits
by Jim Cassidy

Tempe, AZ

Downtown Tempe's Rabbit sculptures always felt creepy to me, in a sort of Alice in Wonderland creepy way. I thought this image nicely expressed my Alice in Wonderland creepy sort of psychedelic view of these rabbits. These large bronze rabbits and fountain are located in Downtown Tempe, Arizona.

1/15s f/8.0 at 15.3mm iso100, used Negative Effect option within the camera to produce this picture. Taken with self timer and a tripod to avoid vibration. Used apeture priority mode to set f/8.0 and get a good depth of field. full exif

I like the imaginative concept here, with the subject and the use of the negative mode. Good crop with just the big rabbit ears projecting from the foreground. Makes you mentally step back with a 'whoa'. My only nit is maybe take "creepy" out of the title; I think it the creepy-do sensation stands without it. To quote Buffy the Vampire Slayer: "It's the bunnies!"

Fremiet: I have another picture of this scene in which the second rabbit is more apparent. It's in the Exhibition gallery. I'm not sure which one I like better, they both intrigue me. This one, where the background rabbit is obscured by the fountain, seems a bit more sinister than the other image. The other image is here:http://jjj.image.pbase.com/u16/stfchallenge/upload/5115615.Rabbit2.jpg. In that image, the foreground ears are not quite so prominent, since the background rabbit is obvious. Thanks for the comment.

The use of negative here is intriguing. To my eye at least the rabbit in the middle only became apparant after examining the image after a few moments...was that your intent? The foreground ears really command attention. Interesting work. Fremiet
