Statue of Freedom
by Capital Man

Capitol Hill, Washington DC

The Statue of Freedom sits on top of the dome of the U.S. Capitol. In 1855, Congress commissioned sculptor Thomas Crawford to design this statue. Construction of the statue was completed after Crawford's death in 1857. The statue was raised in 1863. In 1993, the statue was removed from the dome for four months for restoration. See http://www.aoc.gov/cc/art/freedom.htm

This shot shows the limitations of the F707. At full zoom, this is as close as you can get to the statue. Purple fringing is evident in the picture, a phenomemon which often occurs when the F707 is used at full zoom. But at least I was able to get the shot.
