Thanks Deb, Helen and Katherine. These poles were built sometime between 1840 and 1880. They were taken from an abandoned Haida village that was decimated by smallpox. Each nation has it's own style of pole. Some are elaborate and colorful, others are more minimal. The Haida are the most abstract of all the coastal nations.
