Ann, I think this one delivers a better sense of "lines" without the distractions of color. The shadow and light are emphasized here. There's more a sense of nostalgia here too...the scene feels like it could be older than the current time. The scene doesn't feel as immediately inviting to me either, leaving open more mysterious possibilities. Overall, I like this one better..I guess I like how it affects me. Nice shot. MFC

I prefer the black and white shot also, because there's less distraction from the fence and its shadow.

Both very effective. I like the fact that in the color shot the fence has a sort of green tone, and the red tree becomes a striking element. Still on the whole I think the B&W is better since it focuses better on the shadow.
