I remember this photo from the POTM at photo-of-the-year as well as from bestfoto. One of my all time favorites. Congratulations.

Thanks folks. I updated the location field. This is in Liberty State Park, NJ. Most people who come here point their cameras the otherway - its a popular spot to take photos of the city skyline across the water.

Highly effective! It would be helpful to post the location, at least in general terms, where the exposure was made. Michiel has a point about lines, I guess, but I think the emphasis in this image on the foreground bench adds a lot. The benches seem to be in pairs, so I assume you could have included two foreground benches. I think you were correct to decide not to do so.

Arjun, this is a very beautiful convergence of elements you captured here, and captured it well ! The streetlights and row of benches definately give the the feeling of lined up for the challenge and the beautiful end of day light gives the image (the ground and benches) a beautiful coloring. I also like your perspective.

thanks for taking the time to comment. I understand perfectly what you mean. That is the reason I titled it convergence as opposed to lines.

This may give you an idea: draw equally spaced dots on a peice of paper and tilt them at around 45% to your nose and look close to the paper. The spacing would look just like the chairs - even though they are equally spaced, distant items are 'packed together' to give you a 3D feeling of convergence.

Same holds true for the pavement lines and the pole lines.

I agree that its not a traditional line focussed picture, rather , its focussed on the aspect of convergence of various lines.

first of all, the colours are stunning, just wonderful! And the composition is very appealing!

But I have a gripe with this one, the irregularity of the lines of the elements (like the space between the benches, where there is a huge difference between bench 1 and 2,3 and bench 2,3 and 4,5) really cuts in on the lined-up feeling. I don't get that kind of feeling from this picture. Am I making sense or do you want more explanation?

On the whole, I think it's a wonderful picture, only the lined-up feel isn't there for me

Okay, another try at expressing my gripe. I think I'm missing out on the lined-up because there are:
1. too little benches in the picture to get them to really line up.
2. too little pole visibility to really get them to line-up
3. the railing line, being just a curve IMO
A possible solution, although I'm not sure if it would work, if this picture had been taken from a lower perspective it would show the railing a bit more, more power to the benches and a clearer view of the poles. It is merely speculation, but there you have it :D

This is really a nice example of "convergence", Arjun...I see many elements aligned here, converging along a gently-curved path toward a distant endpoint. Beautiful colors too ...the lighting is magical. The bit of shoreline you also captured really adds to the effect. Well taken and composed. MFC
