Facsinating looking instrument, Ann. Just the right light and there are plenty of things lined up here for sure!

Thanks for all the comments! Wish I did play but I don't. Arvin plays classical guitar but that involves only six strings. On this lute there are nine double strings and two single strings that the player plays as they would a guitar and four drone strings that are in the top on this image. It is one of the hardest instruments to play and keep in tune. This one was in the exhibition of the Boston Early Music Festival. It was on display by the man who made the instrument. You can see more pictures from this festival here:http://www.pbase.com/ptkitty/bemf

Ann.. This Lute is so beautiful.. a work of art in itself. Beautiful velvety smoothness and great composition. Irish

Nice diagonal composition and lighting - that sure doesn't look easy to play, or to tune!

What an interesting image Ann! I love all the various curves and angles shown here. Great composition and lighting and just perfect for the challenge. Very nice indeed! bottles

I've never seen one either, Ann; but I think it was one of the most highly regarded musical instruments of the Renaissance. I really like the warm tones here and the nice, even lighting ...the headstock is so unusual and interesting to look at. That's sure a lot of tuning keys to adjust! Do you or Arvin play? A unique instrument...& a good idea. MFC
