Taking Measure of Things

by Helen Betts

Ankara, Turkey

I know, pretty mundane, but my kitchen drawers are full of mundane things! (The food they turn out, though, is pretty darn good :-))

Helen, the symmetry brings the mundane into the innovative world; nicely done -- Chris

Helen, I like the simplicity and symmetry here...interesting measuring spoon shapes. Nice lighting and contrast with the background too. Good idea. MFC

Very nice patterns and reflections, Helen. Simplicity in design, but attractive.

Thanks, Melanie and Katherine, for your comments. These are just plain old measuring spoons that I bought in the States (Wms.-Sonoma, I think). The result isn't exactly what I had in mind when I started out photographing them (I had envisioned minimal light outlining just the edges of the spoons) but just wasn't happy with the results. Helen

Nice patterns of lines! Are those really teaspoons or some Turkish measurements?

Beautifully done Helen, excellent choice! I like the simple, elegant shapes, and the play of lines and shadows. Nothing wrong with mundane objects. Sometimes simple objects make the most elegant subjects, because they have simple/spare lines. And I bet the food is good! --Melanie
