Dreaming of Maxfield Parrish Skies*
by mlynn

The other evening, the reflected sunset made the clouds/sky to the east this amazing color.
I could only grab a few shots by the time I got my camera, as it faded quickly.

Thank you everyone. Hah! Nancy :), I gotta admit, I felt kind of silly taking those pictures. I tried taking pictures in a couple of different outfits, then sans outfit-- and this one seemed to work best for what I had in mind. --Melanie

Beautiful image - I love the sky and cloud color! I had to look up Maxfield Parrish, too:)

I had to go look up Maxfield Parrish (terrible, I know). I think you did a great job of it-- the colors and composition is wonderful.... and boy, would I have loved to have been a fly on the wall while you were shooting this. ;-) --Nancy/odigi

Very nice, Mlynn. Your imagination is perfect for this type of challenge. You also framed the image very nicely.

Melanie I like the lamp. The hair selection is a real improvement imo...now it does not draw the "helmet" attention the other did. Heavens you are inspired in this challenge!! John

I'm not familiar with Maxfield Parrish's work, but this is such a pretty and surreal image. I love the vibrant colors, and the whole composition - including the lamp.

I made a change to the selection around the hair this morning (hopefully it is an improvement). Still thinking about the lamp tho'. --Melanie

Thank you John. I'm not sure yet whether I like it better with the lamp or without; I was thinking of those lantern globes Maxfield P. often incorporated in his paintings. I wasn't quite sure what direction to go with this one; I wanted to add something...but wasn't sure what. I'm still not sure if it's finished yet. About the hair--I don't think I'm familiar with the 'extract' filter, so I'll have to look into that. I used the mask selection method. Unfortunately, I took the body image against a medium/dark green background (I should have looked for something lighter), and it was difficult to see where the background ended and the hair began--so I ended up with this helmet-hair result. (My excuse was that it sort of went with the surrealistic nature of things :). Thank you so much for the suggestion, I'll give that a look.

Y'know....I was wondering whether someone would do a Maxfield P take. The cloud and sky colors would have had him in a millisecond. This is so dreamlike elegant, erotic and surreal. The way you have put it together is inspired the body and the clouds work incredibly well in tone and form contrast and the street lamp was an inspiration...think I like it?
*I might have chosen to take the body from its original setting using Extract in filters...if doing that would make it emerge the way I think it would, then the hair boundary would be less definite, and a strand or two flying out of order would perhaps make the mix with the clouds even stronger...but I would have to see it to know.
