Thank you for your comments everyone. Salman, the simple answer to your question about why I often like to use ravens in my images, is just that I like ravens. They're quite common where I live, and I just enjoy them. But besides that, ravens figure so prominently in various mythologies in many parts of the world, they make (I think) powerful mythological symbols in imagery. Raven is often depicted as a trickster, a hero (the bringer of light), or even as possessing healing energy (more for the mind I think -- if I remember correctly). I enjoy seeing ravens swooping over my vehicle as I drive down the road, or flying overhead when I'm in the woods. I don't tend to view them as symbols of death and darkness as many people probably do. They may be carrion eaters, but they're just so darned interesting :). --Melanie

A complex image (to my eyes at least)... the stuff dreams are made of. Nicely done Melanie!
PS: Someday you'll have to explain the recurring Crow/Raven theme in your images. ;-)

Nicely done Melanie. I like your use of shadows and sillohettes. The crow brings in a dark feel and the highlights lift it up. It's an image that keeps my attention. -- Chris

I like the texture of this one, Melanie. It has a "painting on silk" feel to it. To me, the texture is more important than the actual images.

Melanie: This is so evocative. The crow/jackdaw in the bottom right corner is very powerful when linked to the barbed wire like black strands all around it. The connected yet incongruous feather both integrates and disrupts, exactly what can happen in a dream. All this bathed in disappearing ripples. Great stuff. John
