6th A Slice of Ankara
by Helen Betts

Ankara, Turkey

Taken from a slit in the old walls of the Ankara citadel. This really is a slice of the city: At the bottom are some homes from the very old part of town, then some sort of '50s-ish architecture, then on to nicer/newer apartment blocks, then the presidential palace and grounds, and then the mountains that surround us.

And for my usual story that goes with my images: I was desperate to find something else for the challenge on my one free afternoon before it ended, and I knew there would be something interesting at the old citadel. Unfortunately, I had very slippery moccasin-type shoes on and literally couldn't make it up the steep slope, even with my husband helping me. So I took off my shoes and walked up this rocky path in my socks, and got a lot of strange stares in the process. But at least I made it to the top :-).

Very nice shot - it really makes me want to look through the slit for a wider view of the city!

I would love to see your passport Helen. You have been to and photographed some of the most amazing places. Great shot. I like the uneven - rough border. Makes the image in my opinion.

It is very interesting to note how your slice is build with many horizontal layers: the roofs, the apartment blocks, a park (?), hills, mountains and finally the clouds. I like irregular bordure produces by the stones. For me, this is a nice picture in perfect accordance with the theme.
