Water meets Land (in IR)
by

Seven Sisters, Eastbourne, UK

Taken yesterday (05/03/05) at the same time as the image in the Exhibition Galleries at the famous Seven Sisters stretch of coast. This was at around 5:15 pm, half an hour before sunset. I used my MaxMax.com converted Sony DSC-F717 with Hoya R72 and a Circular Polarizer. I drove 110 miles from home just to get this image (& another 110 to get back) - I think it was worth it :-)

Exposure info:
- ISO 100
- WB Custom (using some white paper)
- Shutter 1/50 sec
- Apperture f8
- Noise Reduced in Noise Ninja 1
- Processed in PS CS (channel swapping plus slight contrast and saturation adjustments)

other sizes: small medium original auto

I appreciate your feedback. The cliffs really are that white. The reason for this is that they are made of chalk. They are also very tall in this particular area.

There are two main areas in the souther UK where you get chalk cliffs like this. One is around Dover (where many films have been shot) & the other is around Eastbourne. This includes Seven Sisters & Beachy head.

Seven sisters is so names, because it contains 7 undulating chalk cliffs. You can find more info on the area here:

Beachy Head forms part of this group. It is the highest chalk cliff in the UK & unfortunately over the years has become infamous as the most popular place for people to take their lives by wither driving or jumping off of it. Here are links to two other photos taken at beachy head:

Luben, this is a beautiful composition of sea, land, and sky...the lighting, clarity, and toning throughout are amazing. Your IR rendition captures the primal feeling of this ancient expanse...the spirit and majesty of a place where the chalky white cliffs meet the force of the sea. Well done. MFC

What a stellar Shot Luben! I really love the vantage point/perspective .The wonderful earth water and sky intercepted so protectively by the wall/ruin.. Amazing colouring composition & not least Nature. I will be bookmarking this place for travel[love the name].Beautifully accomplished. Expansive & inspiring ~Irish

Oh how beautiful Luben. What a gorgeous photo. I can't imagine a better day than a drive like that, and perfect outcome. I like the way you allowed the stone to stand out. Is that from the IR? Or was it normally darker?
