Spring Glow
by Helen Betts

Ankara, Turkey

I promise I won't change my entry again! Seriously, to those who took the time to view and comment on the other two images I had posted, please accept my apologies for switching on you :-)) First I thought I wouldn't be able to find any flowers, and even if I did, wouldn't have any time to work with them (wrong on both counts). Anyway, I found a tulip bulb in the supermarket yesterday and it had opened by the time I got home from work tonight. I managed to mess something up with the image and by the time I realized what I had done, the flower was past its prime (putting me close to tears, literally). After spending hours trying to save it, this is what I ended up with, so I decided to go ahead and post it anyway. Thanks for your patience!

Thank you, everyone, for your comments. Makes the hours and sore back and tears all worth it :-)). I used an LED flashlight (I think it's called --very intense beam) shining on the side/bottom of the blossom in a totally dark room. I thought the flower was dying, but tonight I saw that it was fully opened -- the inside detail would have made for a fascinating picture, but unfortunately it was almost 1:00 a.m. when noticed it. Next time! Helen

Helen, I really like the simplicity of form that you achieved here with your lighting and perspective. Nice color and background contrast. Artistic. MFC

Very artistic photo, Helen. I really like your lighting of the aging bloom. Bev

No need for apologies, Helen. IMO, this is better than the one it replaced. I like the backlighting as it made the petals and leaf "glow" and highlighted the bloom's pretty colors. Nicely done.
