Hockey Night*
by Jerry Curtis

While the NHL is on strike, the farm teams aren't. This was taken last night at a home game of the St. John's Maple Leafs. This is one of my first attempts at panning with a moving subject using slow shutter speeds (1/60s in this case). The V1 is probably not the ideal tool for this kind of work, but I did get a few "keepers".

BTW, this was hand-held - not on a tripod with a panning head...

Good technique to accentuate the player, Jerry. I like the composition, the color contrast, and the exposure of the scene too. MFC

Nice shot Jerry. I think your attempts at panning came out very well!

Hopefully, there will be hockey soon. Recently, I went to a Cleveland Barons game when they were playing in San Jose. It was fun but not the same. Nice shot and hopefully hockey will be back soon.

Right Jerry. No NHL but this is close enough. I like the single player in the red and white against the background of blurred blue and white players. Very striking.
