Holidaze
by Helen Betts

Ankara, Turkey

Taken at the Karum Shopping Mall, which is also where my newspaper is located. Although Turkey is a Muslim country and doesn't celebrate Christmas, they do celebrate New Year's and have a lot of the same kind of decorations up that you would see in the States over the holidays. Great title for this, Helen...I feel the hustle and bustle...I sense the festive spirit. An effective rendition for this theme. MFC

Interesting tinsel effect from the light stringers Helen. Very festive.

No, no wind, it's an indoor mall that now has lights strung all over the place. I think the 1/2 exposure plus no tripod gave it that look, although I was leaning down against a railing (with an anxious coworker wanting me to get it over with so we could get on our way home). I took at least three shots of this view at varying shutter speeds, and the shorter exposures had more definable lights, but I liked the lacey quality of this one. And the idea was blurry, OOF, so that's what I aimed for, as against the grain as it is for me :-). Helen

Hi Helen, very interesting indeed. Was it windy?
