Gracias, Jesus, for commenting. Alexeig: the house in the foreground is a traditional—typical—Turkish wooden construction and belongs, therefore, to the picture in its own right (IMHO) as does the street-life. I did not want to capture neither a postcard, nor Aya Sofia as the "majestic" building it is (as can be seen on Helen's image), but just as an integrated part of the city's "normal" appearence. If I succeeded or, on the contrary, failed with the composition as you seem to imply, that's now entirely up to you to decide... — db.

Daniel. I love late afternoon shots: You have a perfect exposure of the building lights, the sky and a gleam of detail of the shades. Jesus.

That would be absolutely great ... In reality this is a very difficult subject. The challenge is to transmit the majesty of the building and yet avoid the postcardly look. What do you think about the building on the foreground?

One's photographic perspective seems to depend, Helen, on what hotel you book ;-)) This picture was also shot from a hotel, the one I was in at the time, a wooden Ottoman mansion (the windows on the foto's left hand side belong to it), rebuilt some decades ago and then turned into the "Yesil Ev" hotel by the Turkish Automobil Club...
(Besides: Enjoy your trip to Eastern Europe!) — db.

Oh, and thank you, I pushed "Post" too quickly. I'm so happy you enjoy my images from Turkey -- it's a fabulous place, don't you think? I'll be going to Eastern Europe (Prague, Budapest, Vienna and Bratislava) on Tuesday so will hopefully have something new to show :-). Helen

LOL, Daniel! Nice picture, great light. Looks like it was taken from the front (mine was taken from my hotel terrace, which is on the left side as you face it). I love Aya Sofya at all times of day; just took some pics of it two weeks ago but haven't had a chance to work on them yet but I know they were at the completely wrong time of day. Helen
