I shall never see ...
by

Botanical Garden, Huntsville, AL

Trees

I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.

A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the sweet earth's flowing breast;

A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;

A tree that may in summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;

Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.

Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.

Joyce Kilmer. 1886–1918

Very nice B&W image. I like a lot trees in B&W and you got a simple but very attractive picture.

Nice capture made even stronger by the use of black and white. Helen

Kevin, an excellent choice of tree with aged character for this lovely verse. The B&W conversion really focuses on the deep texture and interesting roots. Nice find and capture. -Michael

Great shot, Kevin! This was exactly what I was looking for to use with the second verse,(or is it stanza?), of the Joyce Kilmer poem we have both quoted. I like the proportion of height and width you have used. The B&W conversion also works very well.---Deb
