IronMan Wisconsin Triathlon

Your opponent, in the end, is never really the player on the other side of the net, or the swimmer in the next lane, or the team on the other side of the field, or even the bar you must high-jump. Your opponent is yourself, your negative internal voices, your level of determination.

Excellent capture Katherine, I wouldn't even begin to know how to capture something like this. (Oh, and the quote is very appropriate too :). Melanie

I too feel the determination. The choice of a single rider is a good one. Great capture.

Great shot Katherine. It illustrates the quote perfectly. The feeling of motion is almost physical. Harry

Thanks for the comment, Michael. I was practicing panning to get the cyclist sharp and the background blurred - I took a lot of shots to get several that were sharp. I used a small aperture so it would be more likely to be in focus. Some shots I tried continuous focus, some I either estimated the distance, or focused on some cones in the rode, then switched to manual focus - I don't know which I did for this shot. Then I cropped a lot, and searched the web for a quote.

phfft! Katherine, what a marvelous feeling of speed and determination you captured. Your quote and image really emphasize the solitary commitment of these athletes. I'd be most interested in the details of how you captured this image. Nicely done. -Michael
