The Warrior
by dave v

Sculpture by dave v

The History:
I am a pipefitter. My wife has an art degree and works at a gallery.
One day 15 years ago walking through a art gallery,
there were some poor (in my mind) metal sculptures.
I said "I can do better than that." She said "Let's see you do it then."
This was the result of about 30 minutes of hard work.
All pieces made from pipe. The spear is a welding rod.
I now leave the art to the artists. :D

What is so impressive about this photo, is that you have crafted it from the very beginning with your own hands. Very artfull sculpture and well photographed. -Arn

This photo brings a smile to my face. I like your choice of lighting. Well presented art that fits the theme for the Challenge on multiple levels. Knowing the background adds that extra touch. Nicely done. - Simon Bennett.

Thanks for the kind words, for the sculpture and photo.
The lighting for this was so easy, it's unreal.
I set it up, outside, on a white piece of heavy paper
on a very overcast day in front of our white garage.
I set the EV at +0.7 to wash it out just a bit more.
Thanks again, dave v

you shouldn't have given up after one sculpture. Practice makes perfect and you look like you were well on your way .

Great job on the sculpture, and on the photo of it! I really like the lighting, with no shadows.

Gorgeous work Dave. With this sort of tallent I wouldn't "leave the art to the artists"!! You should deffinitely try some more pipe sculpture. The photo is good too. The angle allows for good rendering of the facial features, while the seamless high-key background ensures a clean result. Well Done!!

Dave, I like your original piece of "pipe art" here...those museum pieces don't have anything on you! :) Nicely exposed...good background choice too. MFC

You are SO creative, guy! I especially like the squiggle nose :-) Well, it's metal and you photographed it nicely. Markjay

Hey Dave, I really like the primitive nature of your sculpture. It would be so cool to have a whole line of these guys on a wall-- kind of like paper dolls. ;-) --Nancy
