Oh Mike, the quality of the image is just stunning. I think you've perfected this technique of yours. The subject matter is great-- reminds me a great deal of my own childhood, except my brother wasn't nearly as forgiving as this young lady looks like she might be. Or is she? Maybe she will just wait for the perfect payback time. ;-) --Nancy/JoseNoway

Mike,

Thanks for the explanation. I understand it. I always admire your ability to execute during capture and post process the images in a way that reach perfection. Very interesting toning ... I use Noise Ninja (no Neat Image for mac) and I should try if in the future to see how it may give smoothness to some images.

Thanks again for your explanation. Fantastic image.

Thank you for the comments. Miguel, I'll try answering your question. First, I have a really handy, affordable, lightweight tripod that I use almost every time I take a picture because I'm always trying to get as much clear detail as possible...it's the Velbon Maxi 343E. I think three things contribute to the smooth/luminous result here:__ 1)I think the morning sun filtered by tree leaves provides fairly even, bright lighting for the scene__ 2)When changing a B&W conversion to a duotone in PS, I often choose "black" and the really light/subtle "Trumatch" color "10-f" for the favorable skin tones__3)Lastly, I sometimes run a photo thru Neat Image, but only for a subtle result...this time I made a very small selection just within the dark center of the bucket. If any of this is confusing or not explained well enough, feel free to email me and I'll be happy to try making things more clear. MFC

Great image, MFC! I also like the way you have captured the water being poured. The expressions of the drencher and the drenchee are priceless.---Deb

Great image, Mike, and wonderful capture of the girls' expressions. I took a quick look at this last night and have been wanting to get back to remark on the wonderful luminous quality. I see that everyone else noticed the same thing. This is sure to be a treasured photo for their family. Bev

Great image Mike! Reminds me of the fun my sisters and I used to have when we were growing up. I really like the b&w. Linda L.

Great catch of a funny moment!

The composition is very nice but what really strikes me is the quality of this image. The smoothness of tones and textures while achieving so much detail is really incredible. The B/W conversion is fantastic. If you don't mind saying, I'd like to know how(in post) you did this.

Hi Mike,
I made a mistake. "Same goes for me" I wanted to write.... in reply on a nice message of Miguel saying that you did a very good conversion, smooth and lots of detail. He also asked how you did this and would like to know.

But i forgot the word "me" and must have deleted the message of Miguel when I tried to correct. So very sorry! I wish we were on smugmug. So much easier.
