Deserted house in West Virginia. This is an opening to a story, a mystery story at that. What happned here? Did they run in panic? Did the old lady die without kin or neighbors to tidy up? Or is this just a metaphor; inside all of us, is there some attempt to make the world a homey place? Or maybe just evoking the spirit of Emily Dickinson? I don't know.
