"The Bag*" by Miguel Garcia-Guzman

This is an opened paper bag from my shopping yesterday night.

Best regards,

Miguel G

P.S. I saved the image for the web (from Photoshop) and I can see that the EXIF data was not transfered to pBase (?). So here you have the details: Sony F828, date was 05/12/04, ISO 64, f5.6, 2.5 sec, 18 mm.

Miguel: Great. The seam is extraordinarily well positioned and really puts the exclamation mark on this fine, fine work. John

Beautiful imgage, Miguel. How clever of you to use different lighting resources. Something tells me if I had tried this, the fire dept. would have been involved! Keep those creative juices flowing!---Deb

What a great image! I love how the light accentuates the texture of the bag, and how very well you have managed to capture that! Also how the bottom reddish part contrasts with the upper golden part. In addition to this the photo has the rougher looking reddish texture contrasting with the upper "Smooth Golden" texture of the bag. Yet it is all the same bag, only played upon by the light. Nice, Very Nice. Bill B

Thank you all very much for your nice words.

Mike, the lighting was very simple. I just placed several candles (small ones, 4 of them) inside the bag. The image was taken in a room (home office) where I can dim the light to levels where the candle lights were more intense than the surrounding light.

I exposed for the bag and in photoshop I increased the contrast with curves (blended for luminosity) and darkened a bit the black junction of the bag that separates the left from the right in the middle of the image. I also run one pass of local contrast enhancement using USM to increase a bit further the texture. That's all.

Thanks again and best regards,

Miguel

Miguel... MUY Beautiful inside outside origami abstraction!! I love the smooth paper on the outside contrasting the detailed texture that fills the frame with light and darks and lines and shapes...Very Pleasing to the eye and a really good idea with the simplest of things! irish_eye

Neat abstract idea, Miguel...simple and beautiful. Effective lighting, nice color tones, and a good sense of texture. I esp like the effect of the "seam" on the composition...and how the paper "crinkles". Nice photo. Can you share how you achieved your effective lighting? MFC
