Steps from Symmetrical
by Helen Betts

Ankara, Turkey

This is the roof of my office building, which is a shopping mall on the lower floors. I've tried several times to get this right, and this is as close as I could come; and unfortunately, I couldn't do away with the stairs up there :-). I was a bit concerned about the security guards, but they know I work there so let me shoot away, with one exception, who left me alone after I explained this was for a photo contest. (We had what was thought to be a bomb left in our elevator shaft last month -- which nobody bothered to alert my office about -- so they are a bit more cautious than usual.)

Helen, a wonderful example of architectural symmetry so wonderfully executed. The scrolling effect is wild. -Michael Puff

Thank you everyone for your kind comments! A couple of people discouraged me from pursuing my idea about this (my husband hated the ladders as being assymetrical, but thanks Susan, there actually are two of them :-)) but I'm stubborn, so... I hadn't seen the motion you get from scrolling with my Mac at home, but with my PC at work it's fascinating -- I almost get dizzy watching it! Helen

Helen, the V1 did a great job on this one and so did you! I noticed that there are two sets of stairs up there in the heights, on opposite sides of the ceiling. So, to me they fit right in with the perfect symmetry of the image. Susan

Helen, again I like your perspective and perfect symmetry here...nice clarity & so much detail too. I also see the "movement" irish_eye refers to while scrolling...neat effect! :) MFC

Great capture of beautiful architecture, Helen - it's impressive even as a thumbnail. Neat title, too. Bev
