second place
'Waiting for Monday*'
by Miguel Garcia-Guzman

This picture was taken at the Elementary School in Carmel Valley Del Mar, my neighborhood in the North Coastal San Diego.

The picture represents waiting for the next swings after the weekend break. I used to like a lot the swings when I was a kid and in my school (in Spain) we had several of them. I recall one time I got totally dizzy for so much swinging during a break and I could not join the class on time. The teacher found me 30 min later sitting on the side of the swings … I was 6 years old.

The original image was corrected for levels, contrast enhanced for dark areas with curves and I changed the hue to enhance the blue color.

I hope you enjoy. Thanks for the feedback.

Very nice abstract. I love the way the shadows complete the composition. Also like the texture and color of the ground. Ann C

I liked this the first time I saw it and even more so now that it has been cropped. Striking photo. Linda L.

Thanks all for your comments.

Markjay: I am not sure if the arc in the shadows is caused by the lens or it is just how the shadows looked like. Sorry for not being more detail; after you commented on that I realized, I did not pay attention to it before.

You did an excellent job creating atmosphere in this picture. I didn't get a chance to see what the original looked like, but the picture looks wonderful as it stands now.

Beautiful shot, Miguel. Like others have expressed, I find the color appealing, the composition effective and, this is a nice play for the challenge theme. I was wondering if the arch effect of the shaodows of the swing poles is caused by your use of a wide angle lens or, just natural shadows? It really does not detract from your image at all... I'm just curious about it more than anything else. Markjay

Following Andy's advise I recropped the original image eliminating part of the bottom. I compare both versions several times and I think this one looks a bit more focus in the concept. Andy thanks again for the feedback (and Helen sorry that I ended up cropping it).

Doris, gracias por tus comentarios. Un abrazo.

Hope you like it.

Great color and composition. FWIW I like the empty space at the bottom, but that's just me! Helen

Thanks Andy ... good suggestion.

I will explore latter a different cropping approach. You are right that it might fill more the image. Thanks for the advise.

¡Me encanta su foto! Me gustan mucho el fondo azul y las sombras.

clever idea - well done. like the shadows, focus, colors. (*) regarding the compo - i'm somewhat bothered by the empty lower half. perhaps a re-crop, if possible, with some more height to the photo, and minimizing the empty space. just my opinion of course.
