Jim, thanks for the explanation (not that I would ever be able to do all that, LOL!). But what you have come up with is quite fascinating IMO -- it almost looks like a drawing. And FWIW, I like the noise! Really creative image. Helen

The original to this image is literally completely black. I was taken at night, and I wanted enough movement in the snow to indicate a a heavy snow, but not so much as to look too streaky. So, I had to keep the shutter speed as fast as possible. 828 mounted on a tripod. I really didn't like the ones with better exposure - they didn't get me the feeling I wanted.

So, in Paint Shop Pro I leveled extensively, like I never have before! LOL Then I dodged a little bit, and then did some shadow/midtone/highlight adjustments to get just the look I was hoping for. At first the noise bothered me, but the more I look at it eh more I like it.
