Textured Vegetables

Okinawa, Japan

This are goya, one of Okinawa's favorite foods, especially in the hot summer days. It's known in English as "bittermelon," so I don't really know if it's a fruit or vegetable, but it's used like the latter. And it definitely lives up to its name! Handheld, taken at Naha's central market.

Helen, as typical a superb food photo. Marvelous texture, camera angle, and excellent use of a full frame subject. Bittermelons, are an acquired taste, but once you get it they are terrific. :-) R.J. (Imager)

They look like porcupine pickles. ;) But if they are bitter I think I'll pass on eating them. Great texture subject though. :) Ann

Neat idea Helen! I like the composition and various shades of green. Plenty of texture too! bottles
