This image shows the mirror-like finish on the magnicificent reproduction of the Hughes H-1 racer that Howard Hughes flew to a world speed record of 352.39 miles per hour in 1935. The original Hughes H-1 aircraft is in the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C. This replica took several people over ten years to build. This photo was taken at Oshkosh, WI at the EAA fly-in. Unfortunately, on the way home from Oshkosh, the plane developed engine problems that resulted in the plane being destroyed and the owner/pilot being killed.
