It really is fascinating...thanks for the added info. I have to admit that I don't know how to read any kind of music :( Now I'm inspired to learn this... so I'll more fully appreciate the Shakuhachi that I enjoy trying to play. Glad you introduced me to this, Arvin. MFC

Believe it or not this does help. Now I know that each symbol represents a finger placement on the shakuhachi and that the little added marks indicate length of note. If you look at Auld Lang Zyne on the other photo you can see that the same pitch has the same symbol... neat Arvin. Ann C

Arvin, I still may not understand; but I do think it's a great "accompaniment" to your flute photo... & I'd love to learn how to use it. MFC
