Okinawa, Japan

Koto and players at the Okinawa Memorial Day ceremony held at the Peace Park in Itoman. Taken from my seat in the first row. It's a pretty somber occasion, commemorating the 200,000 who lost their lives in the Battle of Okinawa, but before things got under way I managed to (hopefully unobtrusively) capture this.

Helen, there are so many beautiful and interesting details and patterns in these instruments and in this image, and you captured them so well :). Melanie (mlynn)

Hi Doris, yes this is called a koto. It's a very traditional Japanese instrument, but other than that I don't know too much about it except that I'm not wild about sitting through koto performances :-). Helen

A great and interesting shot, Helen. Koto is this musical instrument´s name?

Very interesting instruments, Helen...you captured them from an effective perspective and with really nice, clear detail. I like your choice of comp/crop too. Well done. MFC

The second I laid eyes on this shot, I KNEW it was Helen P Betts.... had your name written all over it ;-) Nice composition and repeating elements. I wish I had the variety of culturally fascinating subjects and "things" you are so good at finding, Helen. Yes, I have beautiful nature here in Florida and, I love every minute of it but... well, you know. :-) Mark J
