7th Place- Black Rock Canyon Wall
by The Patriot*

This was taken of a wonderful old bridge that spands the black rock walls of the Snake River Gorge. Evel Knievel jumped this river canyon close by this site on his motorcyle decades ago. THE EXIF DATA SHOWS INCORRECT DATE BECAUSE THE DATE WAS WRONG ON THE CAMERA. THE V1 WAS RELEASED FAR BEYOND THIS DATE. THIS PICTURE WAS TAKEN ON OCT 26, 2003 SORRY FOR THE CONFUSION.

I like how you chose B&W for this shot. And the way the bridge seems to just disappear into space is pretty neat. All in all a great photo! Bill B

Beautiful shot of the bridge, I really like this. I love the lines and shadows, and how it just seems to go off into space. Melanie (mlynn)

Patriot, this is my favorite of your three images. As others mentioned, it is breathtaking! - and leaves me feeling a little weak-kneed. Very nice shot. Bev

Thank you very much for your comments. I spent a few days in the area on business this week and the small town while not offering much to do in the off time it did provide some interesting photo opportunities. I was hoping to find something interesting for this great challenge topic and when I saw this wonderful black rock river gorge I was instantly inspired to find a way to show off its scale. It is amazing to me that Knieval was able to jump this canyon (or even wanted to). Just down the road from this there is a narrower spot and the remains of some built up dirt that serverd as part of the ramps for the stunt. Apparently, Knieval failed his first attempt and used a parachute to land safly on the canyon floor. The fantastically textured black rock canyon walls afforded a great opportunity to show of the many shades of grey in a b&w image which is why I decided to use the format.

Patriot,
I agree with Ed~ it's breathtaking. I think I drove over this bridge a few years ago. Fine work. Roberta

Patriot, nice perspective and composition here...interesting caption too. I esp like the shadow cast on the other side of the gorge. Neat shot. MFC
