I love my F717 and I'm already tired of hearing about the 828 and the digital rebel but, when all is said and done, in 30 years will any of today's digicams be treasured like my old OM1s and OM2s? I doubt it. Here is my homage to my old Olympus system - a faithful friend.

Hats off to you, Martin. A well taken message and a well taken image :-) BTW, I'm with YOU on this, I miss my old Canon AE1-P SLR. I love the lighting of the scene for this and the way you composed the image, focusing (he he) on the mechanical features of the camera. Great shot! Mark J

Thanks all for you comments on this picture. I do love the convenience of digital and have I have learnt more and rediscovered my love of photography since going digital. There is, however, something so right about a manual SLR. I'm talking, manual in both focusing and exposure, swing needle meter, hewn from solid metal and glass, take the knocks and still look good, old school SLRs. I'd forgotten how bright the view finders were in my old beasts, how satisfying the mechanical movements and sounds are when you take a shot. It also took one long summer working as a farm hand in my late teens while I was at university to earn my first Japanese SLR - before that my cameras were eastern block - so I could never sell my OMs - I literally sweatted buckets to earn these cameras.

Mike, nice picture - are you a fellow Zuiko-fanatic? Just be thankful you're not trying to hold a Nikon F system set up one handed!

Amazing depth of field Martin. Yes, there is something special about this camera and your picture expresses that. Ann C

Great atmosphere you've given this, Martin. And you're right, some things are irreplaceable -- a lot of good inovation from that era has been lost from the design of today's digitals, even in some of the pro gear. Here's a greeting for ya! -- Mike

Beautiful homage and sentiment. You are right, there's something about the classics. I have my grandmother's old Nikkormat. It's a simple, but it's a classic :-). Lisafx
