Make the Switch to Sony !!!
by Ken Sutton

This one was a challenge to get right. The was attempt number 122. I rearranged the keys on the keyboard and tried various methods of lighting but didn't like the results. I then disassembled the keyboard and reduced it down to the plastic holder for the keys. This allowed me to try various methods of backlighting. I ended up with a single 60 watt bulb under the keyboard with a diffuser between the light and keyboard. Text was added in Photoshop and 1 key was edited.

About 15 years ago I art-directed a keyboard close up done as illustration for a 4-color quarterly slick I published for GE. It was a good shot -- and it couldn't hold a candle to this masterpiece. Bravo! You should sell this as a stock photo --- many captions would suit. Great work.

Very clever. I especially like how you made all of the keys out of focus except those that spell out Sony Digital. Good one. Ann C

Nice lighting effort, Ken...really ads to the effect here. I also like how "Sony Digital" stands out "clearly" from the rest. Nice image. MFC

I like this idea. On the flat panel monitor at work, sometimes the keys look inverted - the letters are in a hole. They always look like keyboard keys on my CRT monitor at home.

I like what you've done here. The image is interesting and conveys a message, even on the keyboard :-) You might (might) have been able to create this lighthing effect of backlight behind the keyboard, by creatively selecting on the the space (gaps) between the keys and experimenting in Photoshop. Personally, I would have done exactly what you did! Mark J

Wow, terrific. Love the backlight and how you still have enough light to read the keyboard. Good support of the text by the image. And the color/structure of the text, very high tech. And thank you for describing how you did it and how you experimented to get the effect you wanted. That is what it is about. Willem
