Youth. Leadership. Music in Cincinnati.*
by Eric Hatch

Portrait of James Bagwell, conductor of Cincinnati's May Festival Youth Chorus (among other things). Envisioned here as a recruitment poster for the chorus and as a promotional photo for the conductor. If it were the Sony, it would be in the Eligible category, but alas twas the Fuji today.

Actually, the whole series was shot in portrait mode, but this just seemed like a great and unusual crop, so here it is.

Eric, I really like the in-your-face comp here, enhanced by the lighting, random hair, piercing eyes and hint of expression. Nice portrait ad. MFC

This is a really great portrait! It conveys all the things you described. That cocky, kind of challenging look is perfect. Very sexy in a rebellious kind of way. Lisafx

This portrait is outstanding. It's not only of your subject; it's also "about" your subject, and it conveys the latter well. JoeSchmoe

Excellent portrait - "Accessible intensity" is a good description - he looks like he's real serious, but not too intimidating.

Hi Eric, just read your explanation of the shoot in the STF a few minutes ago, before I had the change to comment. "accessbile intensity" as intended is really expressed well here. Very strong eyes looking into the camera, while still having a friendly and open expression, with well balanced light. I like the leaning forward to express he is getting closer towards you to get contact. Great basis for an announcement/invitation with some text added. Strongest in your series as well, my choice of runner-up would be nr 154. Willem
