Thank you Mark. I believe this fire happened a long time ago-- perhaps early in the 20th century. There are several stumps like this in the woods behind my house. I am surrounded by a forest of Ponderosa pine, which requires occasional fire to remain healthy (but of course with decades of fire suppression--the fuels are probably a little too thick right now). A great but sad abstract, mlynn. Great in that the color and textures are interesting for the eyes to focus on, sad because the tree had to endure fire. Mark J
