The Ivy League.
Fremiet

Fairfax, Virginia

With neo-surrealimages like this interpretation is clearly an open issue. For what it's worth the ivy entering the mouth and exiting the ear is the symbolic subject...doing whatever it's doing outside AND (unseen)inside his head (hence the title). Before I posterized the background the whole thing was a bit too literal...the posterizaton of the background imo converted the image into an invitation to react a bit more strongly to color, and a bit less strongly to form, but they both remain essential components, just rebalanced.

The idea originated as one of my kids was asking about a college fair. I was thinking about the challenge. It occurred to me that combining a college student with Ivy could be kinda cool, so off I went.

I honestly haven't had much time to study images this challenge, and this really hadn't caught my eye until now. Very creative, as usual -- and very interesting. Helen

Mike: I added a bit to the text which I think amswers your question. No, curves was insignificant in this although when I open any image I go to Lab and do an auto curves adjustment, which usually helps the tonal balance. I'm pleased that the eyes drew your attention because I think that after posterization they became the "door" to the image, inviting one to consider a bit more deeply what the image might be conveying. I minimized the posterization on the main strand of ivy to strengthen its presence as a semi-parasitic plant....notice the tendrils. J

Fremiet, interesting composition that catches my attention because of the bright color contrasts and the postion of the darkened eyes. Interesting how you executed your original idea. Is this effect primarliy a "curves" adjustment...or something else? MFC
