Oracle Fisherman by Martin Taylor (Cellophane)

I just couldn't walk by without stealing this portrait of one of the egrets who fish at my office daily; I guess he didn't get the memo about no boating, swimming or fishing in the lake. In the late afternoon he was so busy concentrating on his prey, and probably so acclimatized to geeks like me walking by everyday, that he let me get close enough to take this shot without a protest.

Thanks for all your kind comments on this shot. It's the first time I felt brave enough to post any of my shots in one of these challenges. Perhaps I'll get the guts to actually post an entry rather than an exhibition shot but this was taken a few months too soon when my F717 was still new. It's one of the few times I've used the digital zoom but, tame as this egret may be, he wasn't about to let me get close enough to get the shot just on optical zoom. This has resulted in some aberations in the tail feather details but nothing you can really see at this size of image.
Thanks again - Martin

Beautiful, beautiful! The bird is beautiful, the colors and patterns in the water are beautiful, and even the light reflecting on the bird itself-- exquisite! --mlynn

What a beautiful image, Martin. The water itself (appropriate for the challenge ;-) is beautiful to look at and take in... a myriad of colors and shapes. Then the bird, so perfectly posed, in sharp focus, in an interesting position. People who view / critique bird images, look straight for the eyes and, this one has the eye in reasonably sharp focus.
To top it all off, your image exhibits great detail in the feathers, not always an easy task with white birds.
My compliments on you for catching this at the least likely place to do so... work.
Regards, Mark J
